How I got here
I grew up around Petworth and Brookland — Northeast DC, the part of the city tourists never see. My first real job out of school was on a moving crew, and I stuck with it. I spent years loading trucks all over the District: the impossible Georgetown stoops, the row houses near Lincoln Park on Capitol Hill, the high-rises along K Street where you live or die by whether someone reserved the freight elevator. I learned the city the hard way, one heavy weekend at a time.
What pushed me to start my own company in 2013 was watching how careless some outfits were. Gouged door frames, a coffee table set down in the rain off the GW Parkway, a quote that doubled on move day. I figured I could do it better by doing it slower and more deliberately — full padding on everything, floor runners down before the first box, and a flat written price agreed before we lift anything. That’s the whole idea behind “High Quality.” It’s not a slogan; it’s how we wrap, carry, and set down your things.
How we work now
Twelve-plus years in, we run six trucks and a crew of about fourteen full-time, uniformed movers — our own W-2 employees, not day labor and not subcontractors. We do not hand your move to another company. When you book us, our people show up, and the same named crew that loads your truck is the crew that unloads it. Tanya has run our office since 2014, Brian writes the estimates, and Terrell, Victor, and Malik lead most of our jobs.
Because we only move in and around DC, we know the things that trip up out-of-town movers: pulling emergency no-parking permits so the truck isn’t ticketed or towed, filing building certificates of insurance, reserving elevator windows, and handling the brownstones around Dupont Circle and the historic blocks near Rock Creek Park without a scratch. We keep our US DOT and MC authority current for interstate work, and we hold household-goods registration across the DMV — the District, Maryland through the Maryland PSC, and Virginia through the Virginia DMV. We’re bonded and insured, with up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage per shipment.
