Alexandria Movers

Careful, white-glove moving in Old Town and across Alexandria — our own DC-based crew and trucks.

Old Town Alexandria is one of the trickiest places in the DMV to move, and it’s one we know well. Cobblestone blocks, brick row houses with no driveway, and narrow one-way streets near the waterfront ask for movers who’ve done it before, not a crew sent over by a broker.

District High Quality Movers runs its own trucks down the GW Parkway and I-495 into the city, with the same uniformed crew loading and unloading your home from start of day to last box.

  • Licensed & insured — US DOT/MC & DMV household-goods registration
  • Set-price quotes in writing, with nothing buried
  • Our own uniformed movers and trucks

The King Street corridor and the historic blocks east of Washington Street are beautiful and unforgiving. Cobblestones rattle a poorly loaded truck, the row houses run tall and skinny with steep interior stairs, and curb space near the river disappears early. We plan an Old Town move around those facts: a no-parking permit to hold the truck close, extra padding and shrink-wrap for tight doorways, and floor runners on every historic hardwood we cross.

Out past the historic core, the work shifts but the standard doesn’t: Del Ray’s bungalows along Mount Vernon Avenue, the condos near the King Street Metro, and the newer buildings toward the Eisenhower corridor all get the same care. Our crew protects door frames and bannisters, blanket-wraps every piece, and gives you a flat written price locked before we lift a box. ZIP 22314 is a regular run for us off I-495.

Moving a brick row house in Old Town

The historic blocks reward planning. Before we arrive we’ll have sorted the things that slow an out-of-town crew to a crawl:

  • A reserved curb spot so the truck is steps from your stoop, not a block away
  • Stair runners and bannister wrap for steep, narrow row-house staircases
  • A walk-through of tight turns and low doorways so nothing gets forced
  • Full blankets and shrink-wrap on furniture before it leaves the room
Alexandria local pricing: $159/hr (2 movers + truck) or $209/hr (3 movers), tools and pads included. One-bedrooms typically land at $700–$1,150, three-bedrooms $2,050–$3,150. A $129 deposit holds your date and applies to the bill.

Give us the address and the staircase and we’ll have a plan before move day.

Moving to Alexandria — common questions

Can you get a truck close to a row house on a narrow Old Town street?
Usually, yes — and where the curb is tight we arrange a permit to reserve a spot directly out front. The blocks around Washington and King Street don’t leave much room, so we send the right-size truck and a crew that’s worked these cobblestone streets, rather than a generic outfit guessing at the turns.
Do you move the tall, narrow staircases common in Alexandria brick row houses?
All the time. Steep interior stairs and tight landings are standard in Old Town, so we wrap the bannisters, run stair protection, and bring the manpower to carry safely. If a large piece won’t make the turn, we’ll tell you at the estimate and plan a hoist or a partial disassembly instead of improvising on the day.
Are you licensed to move within Virginia?
Yes. District High Quality Movers carries household-goods registration with the Virginia DMV plus US DOT and MC authority for interstate work, and we’re bonded and insured. Every Alexandria job is run by our own employed crew on our own trucks; we don’t hand your move off to anyone else.
